Welcome to Kindergarten Program!

Some feedback from teachers and parents have included:

“This is a great idea. It helped both of us a lot. We are still using everything.”

“Excellent idea to help parents understand what their child should know before starting school.”

“My daughter felt proud having so many new things of her own. She liked to cut and paste and read the book.”

In the spring before starting kindergarten, three and four year old children are given preparatory resources and experiences to position them for school success and lifelong learning. Parents/caregivers and children are invited to attend a Welcome to Kindergarten™ orientation at their neighborhood school where they receive the early learning resources in the Welcome to Kindergarten Bag and learn strategies for using the resources at home. At the orientation, families connect with kindergarten teachers, school resource personnel and staff from community support agencies. These early years educators provide training on why family planned activity using the resources in the Welcome to Kindergarten Bag will help their children be better prepared for school and learning.

 2011-2012 Welcome to our School!

 St. Jerome, a Science Academy

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welc     Welcome to a new school year at St. Jerome!

St. Jerome Science Academy is a vibrant school which welcomes all faith denominations as well as nationalities. We celebrate all cultures in their uniqueness. At St. Jerome we honour all children and their families and provide the best education for the needs of all in a scientific atmosphere combining faith and learning.

Our unique science focus allows students to develop their inquiry skills which will aide them in their future years. Our school has an impressive array of technology and many teaching animals including a chinchilla, fish, birds, a hedgehog, rabbits, and turtles.  This offers all students wonderful opportunities to learn to care for their world. By caring for God’s creations today, students become the future stewards of tomorrow. Our weekly science walks allow the students to become one with nature and through inquiry based learning we promote 21St Century learning skills.

We continue to look forward to our annual Science Week where all students will once again participate with their chosen projects.

We will continue to work on our school goals which focus on both literacy and numeracy in an inquiry based environment.  The collaborative efforts of students, parents, staff, parish and community make St. Jerome a nurturing community for everyone.

We look forward to a new year of learning.  Please contact us with any concerns that you may have at 780-479-5847.

Labels for the stuff kids lose!!!

 Support Our Fundraiser!

All money raised will be used to help purchase interactive science modules for your child’s classroom!!!

As a way to target the problem of lost belongings and a large lost and found closet, your parent council has decided to fundraise with Mabel's Labels. A company with all types of labels that are colourful, indestructible, easy-to-use and fun!

Mabel’s labels are not only practical, but also designed to be very special to each child. The labels are customized with a child’s (or Adult’s) name, favourite mix of colours and an icon (animal, symbol, etc.). They have expanded their product line to include personalized stationery products, ID wristbands and household labels as well.

Dishwasher safe, microwave safe, laundry safe & most importantly kid tested!

Please log onto www.sjes.mable.ca  to view and place your orders anytime from May 16, 2011 to September 30, 2011.  It is a personally designed website just for our school!!!

You’ll be amazed at what you can label!

Thank you very much for your support,

NEXT PARENT COUNCIL MEETING

The next parent council meeting is WEDNESDAY, Sept 15 at 6:30 pm.

Sometimes you need a helping hand

Thank you Fire station #7

The last piece of our ONP <Out Door Naturalization> project was completed today with the biggest of hands / Ladders.  Edmonton Fire Station #7 and a valiant crew of Fire men lent their expertise in making this 3 year dream a reality.  Truly pillars of our community, we thank our firemen for all they do for our community and in this instance, ABOVE AND BEYOND the call of duty.

Below you will see picture of a bird bath sanctuary that was designed by 5 students with the guidance of an engineer. These plans were then taken by the students to a manufacturing factory one of our school parents owns and constructed this bird bath sanctuary out of metal and fiberglass materials.

Since the projects inception, this last piece was waiting for funding to have a company install it.

Thank you to Captain Gerry Clarke, Travis Bilou, Jeebo Manah, Troy Faryna

from Edmonton Fire Station #7 for all their help!

May God Bless you in your work!
